Before We Get Gathered

Number 108:  May 7, 2007

This was our last organized fellowship. We piled into the bus and headed toward the home of Gulab Singh. We spent the night at the hotel near his home. This was the first actual bed we slept in since the ice palace many days ago. The next morning we headed toward Delhi. Shanti, the woman whom God taught to read, waited on the side of the road for 3 hours for us to drive by. She just wanted to say good-bye. She had gotten a cell phone and had been busy teaching God’s Word and healing people over it.

It was late when we arrived back at Sangat’s home in Delhi. Sambi greeted each one of us with a hug and a welcome back. Beatrice, Sangat’s wife, greeted us with a warm smile and threw flower petals on us again. It was nice to be back in the 21st century.

We had a day off to recover before heading to Agra where the Taj Mahal is located. Agra was hot and touristy. I have been to the great pyramids in Egypt and fought the vendors there. The street vendors in Agra were just as relentless. We let our Indian hosts barter on our behalf. The Taj Mahal was built by a Moslem king in honor of his favorite wife who had died. In 19 years she had borne him 14 children. He was so grief-stricken that he built this marble mausoleum to her memory. It took 22 years to build. It’s always great to speak the wonderful works of God in Islam relics.

Different Indian believers joined us for the trip to Agra. Some had never seen the Taj Mahal. Others just wanted to continue to fellowship with their American brethren. Hapi, a young saint who is speaking God’s Word boldly in the country of Nepal joined us, as did Tawari. Tawari had been a high Hindu priest. Bhupender had gone to the city of Kanpur to teach God’s Word for three years with little results. Finally, he met Tawari who wanted to have a personal relationship with the true God. Once Tawari learned the truth about Jesus Christ’s accomplishments he told everyone. He was instrumental in opening Kanpur up to the greatness of the Word of God. Over the last three years about 5000 saints in Kanpur have been added to the household of God.

The next day was shopping and souvenir time. Clothing, Indian artifacts, post cards, jewelry, stuffed monkeys, were among the buys of the day. A lamb burger at TGI Friday’s finished the hunting excursion. We said our good-byes and headed toward the airport that night. Our flight to London would leave about 2:00 AM. Getting through customs and baggage was quite an adventure in itself. The Delphi airport waiting area was very 1960ish, but you could still get a stale donut from one of the vendors.

Traveling back in time 8 hours or 3 movies worth, we landed in London, home of beef that you could actually eat, not just watch walk by. We had 6 hours to endure before the last leg of our journey. We ate real burgers, bought Cuban cigars, walked the terminal and briefly napped in the quiet area. After another 8 hour, 3 movie air voyage, we landed in Denver Colorado. It was good to be back in the land of the free and the home of the brave again! May God’s Word grow and increase as rapidly here as it is in India.
