Before We Get Gathered
Number 43: March 31, 2006
Our heavenly Father wants us to spend time with Him, fellowship with Him. He has
given His children total access to Him at all times so they can speak with Him
about anything at anytime.
Hebrews 4:16:
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy,
and find grace to help in time of need.
The Greek word for boldly is parrhesia meaning openly, confidently, with
fearless candor. It implies a frankness that under some circumstances amounts to
boldness and intrepidity.
As God’s children, we can come boldly, confidently, openly, with fearless
candor, to the throne of God’s grace and mercy to talk with our heavenly Father.
God has an open door policy. He wants us to come and speak with Him so He can
help. We can come at any time day or night. We do not need to ring a bell to
wake Him before speaking. Good and bad subjects can be discussed.
Ephesians 3:12:
In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
As children of God, we have access, or an introduction to God by Jesus Christ.
He introduces us to God as His child; and it is not a cursory introduction
either. As children of God, we have the right to go boldly and confidently to
God because of the finished work of Christ.
I John 5:14 and 15:
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing
according to his will, he heareth us:
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the
petitions that we desired of him.
Since we have access to God, we can ask anything that is according to His will,
knowing that He hears and answers our petitions.
God put His image, spirit, in Adam and Eve in order to be able to fellowship
with them. When they sinned, they became afraid and hid from God. Thus, their
fellowship became impaired. Condemnation replaced freedom, hindering them from
freely going to God.
There are many examples in the Bible of men speaking with God. They used their
access to Him to discuss personal matters with Him, or to praise Him for His
goodness, or to make intercession on behalf of God’s people. We can read the
records written in the Bible about Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, David, Jesus
Christ, Peter, or Paul and how they fellowshipped with God.
Since we have been given this access, shouldn’t we take advantage of it by
spending time with our heavenly Father by discussing our life’s direction with
Him? Or anything else for that matter.
