Before We Get Gathered
Number 47: April 16, 2006
He is risen! Praise God! On Resurrection Sunday we celebrate the finished work
of Jesus Christ. His purpose was to carry out his Father’s work, which totally
freed and completely redeemed all of mankind. The foundation for our lives as
Christians is found in this completed work. He gave his life when all his work
was finished. He had become the perfect, complete sacrifice.
John 4:34:
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to
finish his work.
John 19:28a,30b:
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the
scripture might be fulfilled…
…he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
God is still speaking to us today through Christ’s finished work because of
Christ’s exalted position; seated at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Hebrews 1:1-3:
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir
of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and
upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our
sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Jesus Christ purged us from all our sins, past, present and future. He brought
total deliverance. We can add nothing. His work as the total savior is
absolutely perfect, complete, finished.
Hebrews 9:12:
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in
once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Redemption means a releasing, deliverance or liberation procured by the payment
of a ransom. We were slaves held captive in the Adversary’s domain, under the
dominion and control of sin and death. Jesus Christ paid the ransom price with
his own life, shed his innocent blood, leaving us with an eternal inheritance.
The completed work of Jesus Christ is the finished work of love. The work Jesus
Christ finished on our behalf was the greatest display of the Father’s love for
us.
John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
