Before We Get Gathered
Number 50: May 11, 2006
Sunday is Mother’s Day. A holiday invented by Hallmark Cards and the candy and
flower industries. Actually, it is a wonderful thing to remember our mother’s
for all the pain and sufferings that child-rearing brought to them. One day a
year is hardly all the gratitude they deserve for all their efforts and
sacrifices trying to train up a child correctly in the middle of a crooked and
perverse world. A mother’s work is never done!
Proverbs 22:6:
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart
from it.
Remembrance of the love and care and nourishment and tenderness and doctrine
that a mother brings to the development of a child is too priceless to try to
attach a value to it In fact, Jesus had to rebuke the start of mother worship,
something that is rampart today in many religions, while he was on earth.
Luke 11:27 and 28:
And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company
lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and
the paps which thou hast sucked.
But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep
it.
Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and keep it! That is a winning
combination, a loving mother who understands the Word of God and tries to
instill it in their children.
Deuteronomy 6:7:
And thou shalt teach them [God’s Word] diligently unto thy children, and shalt
talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way,
and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
This Mother’s Day, remember those who spend or have spent the necessary time and
effort to try to train their children according to the standards of the Word of
God. Let’s help make their lives a little easier by easing their burdens and
reciprocating the love they have demonstrated throughout their lives. Do
something nice and considerate for them. Thank them profusely that they tried to
instill the keys to a successful life in their children. Be especially good to
those of the household of being a mother not only this Sunday, but every
opportunity we get.
Galatians 6:10:
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all, especially unto them
who are of the household of faith.
