Before We Get Gathered
Number 69: September 5, 2006
Jesus Christ understood from a child his purpose in life; to do the work of his
Father.
Luke 2:49:
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be
about my Father’s business?
As he got older, he continued on his task to walk totally obedient to his
Father.
John 4:34:
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to
finish his work.
John 9:4a:
I must work the works of him that sent me…
Jesus Christ’s labor of love is the greatest feat accomplished by mankind. He
did it to free mankind of sin, and to bring glory to his Father. Jesus Christ
was God’s plan for salvation.
John 3:16 and 17:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved.
Before he was to be taken, in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus had a decision to
make: do his own will or do the will of his heavenly Father.
Luke 22:41 and 42:
And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and
prayed,
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my
will, but thine, be done.
He chose to be obedient, even to death on the cross. Thus, he became the perfect
sacrifice.
John 19:30:
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he
bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
His Father’s work now being finished, he could die a sinless death. Not once did
he sin against the will of his Father. He completed the work mentally,
physically, and spiritually that God asked him to do. We continue to benefit
from his life of total obedience to God today and for all eternity.
