Before We Get Gathered

Number 70: September 6, 2006

Matthew 5:16:

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Many people do not understand the difference of salvation and rewards. Salvation is by grace. Rewards are of merit. Once we have been saved by the grace of God, we will have the opportunity to do good works for Him that He will reward us for.

Ephesians 2:8-10:

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Romans 3:27 and 28:

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Rewards are value based. God tests our works and rewards us accordingly.

I Corinthians 3:13-15:

Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

II Corinthians 5:10:

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Our labor of love for Him, our ministering to the brethren, and our work for the Lord are not in vain. Let us make sure our will is aligned with His will so we can reap the benefits of His Word.

Hebrews 6:10:

For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

I Corinthians 15:58:

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
