Before We Get Gathered
Number 75: October 10, 2006
There is a commercial that asks “What’s in your wallet?”
Unfortunately too many people are too concerned with that question rather than
what God is more concerned about, “What’s in your heart?” God considers what is
in the heart of a person.
Proverbs 21:2:
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD ponders [weighs] the
hearts.
I Samuel 16:7:
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of
his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth;
for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
The word “heart” is used Biblically as the seat of one’s personal life; the
innermost part of the mind. You control your heart by what you allow into it. It
has no filter of its own. What you continue to dwell on will eventually go into
your heart. So, think about what you are thinking!
Proverbs 4:23:
Keep [guard, garrison] thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the
issues of life.
In Philippians 4:8 God gives us some direction on what to think about.
Expanded Translation of Philippians 4:8:
Here is a last piece of advice brothers, what things that are true, real,
actual…honorable, noble, dignified…just, righteous, upright…pure, free from any
and all foreign mixtures…lovely, acceptable, pleasing…kindly worded and spoken,
if there is any virtue, any moral goodness deemed worthy of praise,
commendation, or applause, cherish the thought of them; or take account of them
in your mind and you will start manifesting them in your life.
If our heart is not right with God, we should want to change it accordingly.
King David did.
Psalms 139:23 and 24:
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
The words we speak, come from our heart. Listen to them to determine, what’s in
your heart?
Luke 6:45:
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is
good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that
which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
