Before We Get Gathered
Number 78: October 23, 2006
The commander of the Confederate States of America, General Robert E. Lee was
famously quoted as saying, “It is good thing that war is so terrible, else we
should grow too fond of it.”
A young officer named George Washington spoke of being enthralled with war while
describing the sound of a bullet whizzing near his head during the French and
Indian War.
These great generals, after spending the time it took to complete a war, held
different views! War always impoverishes every nation involved. War demands and
requires the best young men and women of a nation to be sacrificed on the altar
of the lust, selfishness and greed of others.
The bottom line of the cause of war is the Devil. Death, and the power of death,
belong to Satan.
Hebrews 2:14:
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he [Jesus] also
himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him
that had the power of death, that is, the devil.
War stems from a man’s free will to choose to follow the true God or the
adversary, God’s arch-enemy. Adam and Eve chose the latter, and mankind has been
at war since. They chose by their free will to disobey God. This action
transferred their authority, their dominion lease, their power, that God had
freely given them, over to Satan. Satan now is at work endeavoring to steal,
kill and destroy [John 10:10], and is getting nations to follow him too readily.
James 4:1-4:
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your
lusts that war in your members?
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight
and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your
lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the
world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is
the enemy of God.
Mankind will be at war until the cause of war, Satan, is destroyed. That will be
a great moment!
Revelation 20:10:
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone,
where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night
for ever and ever.
Revelation 21:4:
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more
death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the
former things are passed away.
