Before We Get Gathered

Number 89:  January 5, 2007

It’s snowing again! The city is shut down. This is the third major snowfall in three weeks; which is highly unusual for the Colorado front range in December and January.

It’s a new year though. This year can be the best or the worst depending on your attitude.  God remains a constant. He still is a God of love, light, grace, mercy, forgiveness and peace. He is waiting for you to talk to Him. He can meet your every need.

Malachi 3:6a:

For I am the Lord, I change not…

Whosoever has eyes to see and ears to hear is aware that our times are a crisis of confusion? Global warming, global cooling. The war on terror; do we attack or retreat? Manifestations of Satan’s conspiracy of fear abound around us. Just turn on your television set.

There is disintegration of national and governmental morality, environmental pollution, disappearing ozone layer, mounting social ills that manifest themselves in shootings and hate groups. The cost of just basic necessities for living today, food, transportation, housing, gasoline, education, are skyrocketing. All of mankind as a whole is experiencing a crisis of confusion. For most people, the future is an unhappy question mark?

So what’s new? The Prophet Isaiah writing some 2600 years ago warned God’s people.

Isaiah 8:12:

Say ye not, A confederacy [a conspiracy], to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy [a conspiracy]: neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.

About 650 years later, the Apostle Peter wrote about how to handle the terror of this life.

I Peter 3:14,15:

But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither by troubled.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.

Our times differ little from those of Isaiah and Peter. Therefore, let’s not let the world get the best of us. “Say ye not, a confederacy, a conspiracy...neither FEAR ye their FEAR.”

A new year is upon us! Despite the conspiracy of darkness surrounding us, we can look forward to the greatest year of our lives as we continue to claim the promises of our God, holding forth the Word of life and rejoicing in the light of it.
