God Wants His People to Know

Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry [many] times and in divers manners [various ways] spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets.

God has kept mankind informed throughout history by various means. One way was that He had His Word recorded in the stars.

Psalm 147:4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

God gave names to the stars and the groupings of stars because they reveal certain aspects to His plan of redemption. This information was orally passed down throughout history until it was written down. The written Word of God declares God’s glory and redemption plan. So do the heavens.

Psalm 19:1-6

This Psalm not only shows awe for the Creator, but it graphically tells of God’s revelation placed in the heavens: the stars prophesy, they show knowledge, they tell of God’s glory, and they set forth His purposes.

The second way that God made known information was by direct revelation. God told them what they needed to know.

Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God specifically told Adam what He could do and what he could not do, and the consequences. This meant that Adam was responsible for his actions, to either obey or disobey God’s Word.

After Adam chose to disobey what God had told him, Adam suffered the results of his action by losing spirit. Thus the communication line was broken between God and man. However, before continuing further, God informed Adam and Eve about the His plan of redemption.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

From this time on God put spirit upon certain individuals so He could keep them informed. One of these was Noah.

Genesis 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood…

God told Noah what He was about to do, and how Noah could save himself and his family. Why Noah, verse 8:

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Another great example of God talking to His people is at the time of Isaac, during a great famine.

Genesis 26:1-6

Isaac stayed put because God had told Him to. As we keep reading we see what God did for Isaac.

Genesis 26:12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

Since Isaac obeyed Him, God blessed Him as He said He would.

Another way God directly communicated with His people was by dreams or visions.

Matthew 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.

11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

God knew what Herod’s reaction would be to the birth of a king. Thus, he bought time for Joseph and Mary to get the young child out of the country under cover of night to save his life.

God has had other methods over the years to speak for Him. He has sent forth messengers like angels, prophets and ambassadors to deliver His message. They were to speak what God wanted spoken. They were not to add or subtract to the message.

Luke 1:26-38 The archangel Gabriel was sent by God to deliver a message to a young lady named Mary.

Acts 21:10-12 God sent the prophet Agabus to inform the Apostle Paul of impending trouble if he continued on his journey to Jerusalem.

II Corinthians 5:18-20 These verses inform us that we are to be ambassadors in Christ’s stead delivering the message that will reconcile men and women back to God.

Today we speak what God wants us to speak.

I Thessalonians 2:4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

In I Corinthians 14 God has given accurate instructions on how to carry out the manifestation of prophesy which is equal to interpretation of tongues in order that the Church of God may be built up.

I Corinthians 14:2-5

Today, perhaps the best way that God keeps us informed is that He had His Word written down so we can learn from it and know what we are to do or not to do.

Exodus 17:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua…

Exodus 24:3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.

4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD…

God told Moses what to write and Moses recorded it. These words that God wanted written down were added to throughout history and were put together in a book called the Bible. These are words of instruction given by God to help us live today.

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

I Corinthians 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

We learn from the examples God had recorded in order that we can have the patience and the hope needed to avoid falling into the pitfalls of lust.

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

God wanted the information that He gave people over the years written down so that we today could live by every Word of God and enjoy the more than abundant life that Jesus Christ came to make available for us.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
